Barnes is very physically talented and had a solid senior season at Cal. His junior season wasn’t as consistent, but in 1996, under head coach Steve Mariucci, he ran the West Coast offense with poise and confidence. He learned how to utilize all his receivers, mixing in the short passing game. Also, has the ability to scramble and avoid the rush. In addition, has incredible accuracy while on the run.
Mariucci, now the head coach of the 49ers, really loves this guy and with Barnes knowledge of the West Coast offense he is a prime candidate to end up with the 49ers. His draft stock has jump recently, especially after his MVP performance at the Senior Bowl. He led the North to three touch downs in the four drives under his direction.
