Wide Receivers/Tight Ends
There are many solid prospects at wide receiver in this year’s draft. As many as four could be selected in the first round, with many other quality receivers being selected later in the draft. Miami’s Yatil Green will probably be the first wide receiver taken, likely in the top ten overall. He has great size (6-2) and speed (4.3/40) and has boosted his stock after an impressive combine workout. The fastest receiver in the draft is Rae Carruth from Colorado (4.17/40). Carruth is a play maker with incredible potential, but sometimes lacks consistency. Former Florida teammates, Reidel Anthony and Ike Hilliard are very similar in size, speed, and talent. However, look for Anthony to be selected higher then Hilliard. Anthony has better hands and developed into Danny Wuerfell’s clutch receiver at UF last year. Hilliard is a better deep threat. Marcus Harris of Wyoming had a great college career with three consecutive 1000 yard seasons. His combination of size and athletic ability will allow him to be successful at the next level. Other receivers to watch for include; Kevin Lockett, Kansas State, Joey Kent, Tennessee, Keith Poole, Arizona State, Chad Mackey, Louisiana Tech, James Kidd, Colorado.
This year, like the past three years, the tight end position is extremely deep. However, don’t look for many tight ends to be selected in the first round. Over the last few years, many teams have upgraded their tight end position and are going to use their high draft choices to address other needs. Tony Gonzalez and David LaFleur are the two top rated tight ends. Both possess incredible size, strength, and athletic ability. Damon Jones from Southern Illinois is another talented tight end in this year’s draft. He has been compared to Eric Green, with size, speed, and power. Other tight ends to look for in this years draft include; OJ Santiago, Kent, Kris Mangum, Mississippi, Bryan Jennings, Virginia Tech, Freddie Jones, North Carolina, Chad Lewis and Itula Mili, BYU, Pete Chrylewicz, Notre Dame.
