Running Backs
The running back corps is very deep, yet it lacks a super prospect. Each running back prospect has some question marks, but you could see eight backs chosen between the late first and end of the second round. Warrick Dunn is the best prospect and should be the first back chosen in the draft, perhaps in the first 15 choices. After Dunn, there is no clear cut, number two, running back prospect. Sedrick Shaw, after some impressive workouts, has moved into the first round. Corey Dillon has both size and speed, yet lacks experience after only playing one season at Washington. Troy Davis and Darnell Autry, both with impressive college careers, should be selected in the second round. Tiki Barber, once thought of as a sure 1st round selection, has slipped in the eyes of scouts and will probably not be chosen higher then the second round.
Marc Edwards from Notre Dame is the only top fullback in the draft. He is a prototype fullback, with devastating blocking skills. He also can catch the ball out of the backfield and should be a 2nd or 3rd round selection.
Other names to look for on draft day include: George Jones (San Diego State), Jay Graham (Tennessee), Danyell Ferguson (Miami), Ray Nealy (Arkansas-Pine Bluff), Leon Johnson (North Carolina), Dennis Riddle (Alabama), Corey Walker (Arkansas State), Antowain Smith (Houston).
