This year’s NFL Draft features a wealth of defensive back talent. There could be as many as six selected in the first round. At corner back, Bryant Westbrook, out of Texas, leads the pack. He is an experienced athlete with a great combination of size, speed, and strength. Shawn Springs, from Ohio State, is another excellent athlete with great cover skills. Chris Canty, from Kansas State, is a multidimensional player with great hands. He even played some wide receiver in college. Sam Madison, a big play corner, is the best athlete to enter the NFL from Louisville in a long time. Tom Knight, from Iowa, could become the fifth cornerback chosen in the first round. He is a consistent, smart player, who is always in the right position. Other corner backs to look for; Mike Logan, West Virginia, Chad Scott, Maryland, Ty Howard, Ohio State.

Tremain Mack, from Miami, is the top prospect at safety in this year’s draft. He is an impact player on both defense and special teams. Jamel Williams dominated at the linebacker position at Nebraska. However, he figures to play inside safety in the NFL. Many scouts feel he should be able to make the transition. Other safety prospects to watch include; Torrian Gray, Virginia Tech, Chris Carter, Texas, Sean Woodson, Jackson State, Chris Hewitt, Cincinnati, Lawrence Wright, Florida.
